Parallax Mapping - Also known as offset mapping. It is a technique for simulating more detail on a surface than is actually there. It's similar to -Normal Mapping, except that in addition to only introducing lighting variations, it also distorts the texture as you look at the surface from different angles so that it really looks bumpy. This technique can be seen in the Demo_Dot3Bump (you have to switch models and materials to get to it) or Demo_Grass (the head is offset mapped).
